Sweet orange Citrus sinensis

This is a botanical illustration of the Orange. Yup, the one we buy at the grocery store.

I love the smooth leaves, and the revolute petals of the flowers. These smell amazing, and very different to the fruit.

Painting the fruit was hard, all that shiny dimpled peel. It should be remembered that in nature the flowers and fruit would not appear at the same time. Ah, the joys of botanical illustration!

I like the clarity and composition of this one, and loved learning so much more about the plant that bears such a common fruit.
