Doom and Gloom

The Earth is more or less a placid place. We can lead a full life and never encounter a natural disaster more violent than a storm and thus we've become complacent. But the history of our Cosmos, the record shows planets have been devastated, bombarded by meteors to comets from Space, as their landscapes shows much evidence of catastrophes. It's all a matter of time scale. An event that could be inevitable in a million years, would be unthinkable in our time, or would it?
