Years ago when I was in my urban exploration phase of photography, I backpacked throughout China looking for unique perspectives and lineups that fulfilled a deep addiction to collecting these moments. I had scouted the general lineup based on only a pin on a map and my own intuition to a discreet looking complex across the river from the city center of Shanghai. I wasn't sure if the mission was going to pan out and was slightly on edge as I found my way into a dark high-rise that looked about the right perspective. I proceeded up the sets of a dimly lit bare concrete stairwell, passing by windows slightly ajar with metal bars on them. It seemed to get darker the higher I went. At the top, a door led to fresh air and an open rooftop. I stopped to take in the surprisingly fresh air when I turned around to see this scene waiting for me.
