NATURE’S CHURCH

I always found the characteristic shape of mount Kirkjufell, the Church Mountain, extremely inspiring when paired with - and juxtaposed to - Kirkjufellsfoss waterfalls. During years dedicated to photographing this scene, I explored all possible compositions; the lower viewpoint presented here, out of all the possible variants, is definitely my favorite.

My favorite season to photograph Kirkjufellsfoss is winter. In winter, the snow covering the mountain adds texture and depth to it; more, there is higher likelihood of ice and icicles on the rocks surrounding the falls. At sunset, the warmth of the sky creates an incredible tonal contrast with the shaded, iced waterfalls, perfectly expressing the triumph of radiance, energy and hope.

I returned to this amazing location over a dozen times to find the perfect conditions for this image: finally, in December 2019, "Nature’s Church" was born!

WATERFALLS is a collection of ultra-high quality color landscape photographs offered in 12/12 edition.
