This GIF got 59+ million views (and counting) in about 2 years. The idea of this experiment was to upload a seemingly non-spectacular and rather simple gif and make it popular in the sense of views. For a gif to go viral it either has to hit the frontpage of giphy for a while or it has to be trending. I searched for the most popular keywords and tags and added as many tags as possible to this gif. This approach has proven successful because it has become my second most popular gif, after a gif that has 72+ million views (which was uploaded without tags).
To be honest it's not a completely boring gif because it still has the "#scrollOP" effect and the patterns and sense of depth are still interesting. I wonder if I had tagged some of my much more spectacular gifs in this fashion and what it would have done with their popularity. Sometimes virality is a matter of chance, sometimes you can push your luck. The question is, is this clickbait or a conceptual masterpiece?
