Monstermask is the story of M an ordinary man who all of a sudden finds himself wearing the mask of a monster. M his an everyday monster, one of those who sits in the evening on the sofa with his wife and his kids playing on the carpet in front of him. The story of M is the story of everyone of us, the story of our darker part, often hidden in the meanders of our souls, the story that lies behind the mask. Monstermask is the story of truth that comes up to the surface and turn our lives upside-down, the truth that hurts the more it has been hidden. M is a man who finally unveils every angle of his soul and finds himself wearing the very uncomfortable resemblance of a real monster, the icon of all monsters, the one that brought monstrosity to a huge unprecedented scale, the one that each one us recognise as a monster at a first glance. M is the story of a voyage in the deepest, darkest and most hidden corners of our inner lives and an opportunity to reflect on it. What is a monster? What makes a monster? How does a monster see himself? Why did he become a monster?
Encounter the mask illustrates a moment of revelation, when M understands he is carrying a mask and decides to look inside.
Monstermask and the story M was developed as a storyboard and a series of visual notes during a long extensive session of therapy, in one of the darkest and most hurtful period of my life, so far.
