I was interested in the physical practice of yoga when introduced to lotus pose by a friend’s mother when I was 5 years old. The traditional seat for meditation, I have never been known for having a quiet mind or as a good listener, let alone being able sit still for most of my life. Regardless, I have longed for the feelings of peace and tranquility, no matter how illusory or elusive. They say enlightenment can come from seeing and maybe that is what compels all those who create visual works. They also say it can come in an instant, like love at first sight. Years ago I was wandering the aisles of a TJ MAXX when I came across a bronze statue and lost my breath for a second. I was never interested in this type of decoration outside of a yoga studio, but I fell right in love with this multi faced and multi armed statue. I had to do some research, but found it was Avalokiteshvara, from whose tears of compassion both the Green and White Tara’s were born. I loved that so much. It felt like maybe no one’s broken hearts and crying had ever been in vain. This is my submission for #artchallenge555 #makersplaceco
