Chickens: who cares?
The number of chickens worldwide has more than doubled since 1990. In 2019, there were some 25.9 billion chickens in the world, up from 14.38 billion chickens in 2000.
The space allocated to an individual hen in a cage egg farm is about the size of an iPad. They spend their entire lives with their feet pressed against a hard wire floor, with barely enough room to stretch their wings.
It’s estimated that there are more than 50 billion chickens raised for meat in the world each year. That works out to about 136 million chickens killed each day worldwide.
Sorry, chickens. This artwork is for you.
