Alley-oop! Inspired by Portal Trick Shots (2014)

After a long day of testing and eating cake, these two scientists can rest easy knowing that their fun and games led to the discovery of an infinite energy generator.

Wren Weichman, Creator | Portal Trick Shots was an early video I directed for Corridor Digital, and holds a very special place in my heart. It was a collaborative effort with Sam and Niko and the project really pushed me as a visual artist at the time. The video was a really fun way to combine my knowledge of physics with After Effects, and had a fair share of unique challenges that were rewarding to overcome. When I made Portal Trick Shots, I barely knew how to use 3D software. I’ve learned so much since then that now, this entire scene was computer generated.

About This Piece | This work was created not just as an homage the original video, but to the creative puzzles that had to be solved just to make it happen. Quite unsurprisingly then, the completion of this piece required many of the same head-ache inducing brain exercises as the original, including the understanding of exactly what perspective you’d see on the other side of the portals.
