He flips a switch and gently pushes the right side joystick forward. The drone comes to life and takes flight, the synthetic buzz sounding strange in the mountain ambiance. His eyes go back and forth between the screen and the drone as it climbs higher and higher. Past branches and treetops. Past the forest canopy and along the rock face. It climbs higher still as his eyes now remain glued to the small screen. It floats there, above the wilderness, for a moment, then flies off, circling the area. He is now completely consumed by the activity, dodging branches and chasing small wildlife. He grins as the drone comes close to crashing several times, his shoulders mimicking the turns of the small copter. It buzzes past trees and enters the clearing, rapidly approaching the RV. With his eyes alight with mischief he pushes the right side joystick, further along, accelerating the drone. It rushes toward the bikini-clad form of his girlfriend, sprawled out on a camp chair. "Wha- ?" Her question is cut short by her surprised scream. Realizing what he did, he sheepishly looks over the edge of the RV. The camp chair is knocked over as she lies on her back. The book she had been reading is a few feet away. The cat curiously looks from her to him and back again. He tries to contain his laughter while she tries to contain her annoyance. "Uhm... you okay, sweetheart?" Suddenly the cat screeches in agitation as it jumps from her path. "Oh shit. Yo, it was a joke, I was kidding!" He shouts as he runs for the opposite end of the RV's top but a few seconds passing finds him laying on his back with her on top. Her face eclipsing half the sun, its rays slipping past her right side, rushing through strands of wind-blown hair. He is, once more, stunned by how she can be so harmoniously beautiful at any moment. As if the world was tailored to complement her every feature, and the laws of physics grown in such a fashion to make her graceful in any endeavor. He can't help but wear that wide, stupid grin as she looks down on him. Her expression is fierce, but he recognizes the same mischief hidden away in her. "So... funny running into you here." He says with a meek smile. "Come here often?" She leans in and whispers into his ear "Do that again and you can ride that damn drone all the way home. Okay, darling?" She kisses him roughly then regards him with a shaking head and a smile. "So where's the drone?" He asks while getting onto his feet. "Get down and see for yourself." She calls back without looking in his direction. The drone lay in the grass, next to an impressive dent in the side of the RV. One of its four propellers were missing. She walks past and rips the missing propeller out of the cover of the book and tosses it to him. He is left standing there, perplexed at how she managed any of this. "So I guess I'm walking home then, huh'?" "Only if you get any more bright ideas." Comes her reply as she sits reading. The book covers a warm smile and he can't help but go back to thinking, once more, of the day they had finally decided to buy this RV. "Best decision of my life, that's for sure." He laughs to himself. "What's that?" She asks without looking up from the book. "I was saying we'll have to get this fixed on our way to the next site." "Okay, honey. Whatever you want." Comes her answer though the book has already regained her attention. I already got whatever I want, he thinks to himself and steps into the RV to store away the broken drone. A light breeze runs through the clearing, and silence binds itself to the rustling of leaves and birdsong. A long-winded moment of freedom takes hold as the sun slowly sets on their day.
