Full tank of gas

Milkshakes are delivered by teenagers on roller skates as Big Joe Turner's Shake, Rattle and Roll plays in the background. She smiles and pulls the car into the gas station, the wheels slowly rolling to a halt on the sun-cooked pavement. She orders a drink and gets a full tank of gas. The air crackles with life and excitement, the last signs of the Great Depression in the rearview mirror and something great and promising on the horizon. The Golden Age of Capitalism is but a breath away, and the world stands in anticipation.
