Judith's Dinner Party

The Witches and their Familiars series is playing with an idea of a Shadow Truth.

What if witches, being similar , yet separate from the human race, could see into the Reality of a troubled world. If those in power, thinking themselves the Powerful, were merely to become the playthings of the witches; as the witches grow weary of these sorry human's sham attempts at Magick.

I love to use surrealism and dreamy imagery with a tongue and cheek approach to symbolism all in a painterly style of the 19th century portrait artists.

In this Reality, Time is elastic and the witches pass through it, forward or back, with the ease of a commuter on a train. What if they, as creatures, were made special by God as the protectors of the human race? What if, in troubled times, they see those who are most harmful to the human race as prey; their purpose, with the aide of their animal familiars, was to set about righting the wrongs?

This piece is also a take on the Classical allegorical theme of : the story of "Judith with the head of Holofernes".

My Witch series was begun with my Black and White drawings (and continues in that vein as well). From these sketches, which become black and white ink, these painterly coloured versions are born. Having felt they deserved to come alive in colour lead me to wish to create this series in digital oils specifically for the Blockchain. Though I will make bits of these works available in other forms the ENTIRE piece, as seen here, is ONLY available as a single 1/1 piece or artwork for sale on the blockchain. I think they deserve ONE special owner.

These pieces begin with a pencil sketch on paper. They are then taken digitally and made into Black and white digital ink on paper pieces. From there I use digital oil and pastel and paint out the piece, much as I would on actual canvas. There are many layers needed to build up the final piece.

I hope to create many more pieces in this series and hope you enjoy them in their dark humour and reverence for the past and hope for the future.
