I listen to songs sometimes when I go for walks and even though I have listened to them over the years , there would be one that would be special because of the time and place or the person I am at that time.. This one - that speaks of letting the sails catch the wind and venture out from the shore - ready to take on the storm and the gale , ignoring the tossing waves because of the trust - the trust for the oarsman that allows one to sail free.
This song belongs to "Baul" section of Tagore's songs - to me this speaks of being free from life's bonds - about the oarsman who guides you across the river of death ...that is my interpretation but I leave you to yours :
The translation below is not mine :
Your breath of fresh air do I Catch on as I set sail my boat All tethers prepared am I to tear Ready am I to drown, O ready I am for it today.
My morning have I whiled away And my evening was all but the same --- O hold not me now That am I so near my end.
Now am I wide awake All along my night Hoping to steal a glance Of You, O dear oarsman. While these waves With all their contempt Keep on swaying my mind.
Will I embrace even a tempest My resolve not wilt at its frown Do let me fly like a kite Like Your gust let me be blown.
