Rhythm of life ..

In my heart , someone dances , with the eternal rhythm The drum beats along with the eternal rhythm ...

Laughter and tears like diamonds and emeralds shimmer and glitter The good and the bad sway with the beat Life celebrates and death follows in step...

Dances day and night .. Dances freedom and dances the chains that bind it ...

I follow in ecstasy .....

This is my own translation and I did the best I could .

This particular poem is often referred to as a children's song/poem and I learnt this pretty early in my life ....Children's poem mostly because of the lively rhythm but as with all Tagore's poem , this is rich in philosophical references and images the dualities of human existence - Life and death, laughter and tears , freedom and bonds . ,.. referencing them as a cosmic dance which we are all compelled to follow.
