I created this piece on a tablet using Procreate. I wanted to capture a more emotional and dramatic atmosphere. I depicted that peaceful yet slightly melancholic moment as she lies on the surface of the water, her hair scattered around, her eyes closed. First, I created the overall color of the water with wide green-blue gradients. I painted her face and skin with pale, cool tones. I spent most of my time on the hair strands; I used StreamLine and fluid brushes to ensure each strand naturally dispersed in the water. To give the hair a wet and heavy look, I applied low opacity and Multiply blend mode in the layers. I added light reflections and waves on the water's surface by highlighting them with Screen and Overlay modes. The color transitions and reflections between the water's surface and the skin and hair were the most challenging and enjoyable parts of the piece. This work has a calmer and more poetic spirit. I completed it in about 7-8 hours. I wanted to convey to the viewer that feeling where time stops and everything slows down while underwater.
