The Lion of Venice

It is the symbol of the lagoon city, the ancient Serenissima Republic, the City, the Province and the Veneto Region. It appears in the coat of arms of the Italian Navy then in the flag of the Merchant Navy. It is present in the squares and historic palaces of all the cities that were dominated by the Serenissima, on Venetian badges of civil, military and religious use, in gonfalons and on coins.
