To all intents and purposes this looks exactly like a jellyfish. In actual fact, it is the jellyfish-like stage of a hydromedusan, a flower-like animal that lives attached to rocky overhangs and crevices around nearly every shoreline of all the major oceans. This one is a species of Aequoria, about five centimetres across the bell. Long tentacles waft around until they contact soft bodied planktonic creatures, which they sting and haul towards the lippy mouth that extends down from the centre of the bell.
