From the side, this small crustacean called Corycaeus, shows off its huge eyes so clearly we can see the field lens, the binocular tube, a condensing lens with a red pigment spot and the red-orange retina. Each Corycaeus has a pair of these eyes and is believed to have some form of 3D binocular vision, though we have no idea really what it does see. What we do know is that it is a predator and very rapidly grabs smaller planktonic creatures.
