The seasons of Indonesia are extreme to say the least, and the Komodo National Park is no exception to its impacts. Dry season consists of months on end without a single raindrop. Just the scorching sun drying out the terrain. Rainy season on the other hand is several months of guaranteed torrential downpour, often lasting 6+ hours at a time, averaging 5-6 days a week.
My first two visits to the national park were similarly at the tail end of dry season, the landscapes were entirely dried out, looking almost like savannah islands. On the 3rd trip out there, I was blown away. Lush greens unlike anything, in every direction. Islands that were already beautiful in their own respect, now decorated in flourishing coats of ‘Emerald’.
Being able to capture this stunning seascape from above, making use of a polarizer to get a taste of the true variety of blues and aquas in the coral beds surrounding the islands, was just the cherry on top.
