overpaint v1: chasing butterflies

recently my son ran toward something beautiful with the kind of confidence only a toddler has. i chased after him, but not fast enough to stop him from falling face first onto the ground.

i couldn’t stop replaying the moment in my mind, but making this artwork became a way of holding that memory differently.

the butterfly is also a caution sign because children don’t see danger the way we do. they see wonder, something worth chasing. meanwhile, as parents we’re constantly scanning the world for what could go wrong.

my “overpaint” series explores a new workflow where i generate a starting composition in midjourney, then paint over it using my finger in infinite painter app on my iphone.

i’m using the erc-7160 contract so collectors receive three layers of each artwork:

• the original midjourney image • the full painting process video • the finished artwork
