Figures walk, dance and pixelate along the entire length of a dusk suburban strip in Drone Town — motels burning warm at the windows, palms cut black against a bruised teal sky — and cannot hold its own shape. The figures keep transforming: into iridescent collage shards, into a red machine-warped head crowned with antlers that are also rotor-blades, into pixel-sorted ribbons where the trees should be. Overhead, the drones keep watch.
Made through GAN synthesis and meta-collage — machine-generated imagery layered and torn against itself — À La Recherche de L'espoir is a work from Drone Town, where the American suburban dream is run through the machine until it glitches into something tender and strange. The title echoes Proust but inverts his subject: not lost time, but hope, searched for across a landscape already dissolving. What's left flickering on the road is the looking itself.
