I couldn't sleep.
6 days before this day, which was 12 days before Christmas, 2018, I was in Rishikesh, India, drinking tea alongside the Ganga River, chasing monkeys from my hotel room and shooting portraits of colorfully robed sahdu or holy men.
A phone call and 24 hours later I was in Tokyo, and then just like that on a plane to California and Venice Beach. I was working on a project that landed me on a rooftop of a hotel in Hollywood, followed by a flight to London, then back to Tokyo before finally landing in Jakarta, which was where I was living at the time.
So yeah, the jetlag had me in her grips and I found myself sharing the beach with the birds, and the towers, and nothing else but the sound of the surf rolling in to wake the day.
