Yesterday afternoon I typed out a long response to Pete Rango, going over some context of doom following my music getting deleted from DSP's by distrokid who is mass deleting hundreds of thousands of artists albums in a response to UMG's A.I. lawsuit, Despite my album being uploaded in January of 2016, long before A.I. music was a reality.
There is a huge convo around this topic, especially where I fit in but i'll shelve that for now, but TDLR... DSP's have always been anti-artist and now adding A.I. into an already broken and rigged system, well you see how that has now had real world negative impact to culture (Even Slum Village got removed)
Long story short, I don't want to participate and upload my music to any DSP (will gladly have the nuanced discussion and reasoning if anyone wants to have it)
How Pete factored into this is because of MUSIC NERD and how it's sourcing it's data and context.
I tried to search and add artists to music nerd but because they removed music from streaming, it's like they don't exist. Which feels bad as someone who dedicated a lifetime to creating and collecting and will soon also be non existent due to everyone vibe coding music / artist related apps/websites/etc relying on DSP api's for what they are building and that just hurts to see, cus i know everyone in this space remembers the whole sales pitch of blockchain was an alternative to algorithms on social media and streaming..
So having DSP's be the source of truth feels horrible.
I spoke on further context of how A.I. is directly negatively impacting my life with some of that context being that as a result of this genie out of lamp being so good at finding exploits, My web browser and pc are being force updated weekly, each time further breaking and damaging my PC...
If you don't understand, I don't have a NAS server to safely back up my life's work, if you've been following along in this SEARCHING FOR A SAVE POINT COLLECTION, you will see how hard i've been working and how much time i've been putting into playing musical chairs with all this precious data for all of 2026... PC's are being bricked by windows updates weekly, how do I know? I'm tapped in bruh.... I'm on edge 24/7 waiting for that other shoe to drop... This week was proof that our legacy isn't safe on DSP's...
Everyone I know outside of the blockchain adjacent circle is having an exestensial crisis... my normy friends having AI forced onto them at work, my music friends feeling they have no purpose between algos and ai....
It's hard for me to pretend the pros outweigh the negatives.
then after sending pete my thoughts, I escaped into the process... while organizing I stumbled onto an old project file from 2018 when I was teaching a homie ableton, So I opened it and spent a few hours working..... until....
Damn Windows Update Critical Error, just powered off my PC....
I lost all that work....
even if I didn't, does it even matter anymore? where can we share and connect of culture these days that doesn't feel traumatic hahah...
I really want to have hope and create hope and positive impact some more in this world.... but i've never felt more hopeless or lost or exhausted for just existing in life...
Thankfully i'm not alone in these thoughts, tho I don't find solace in knowing how i feel is so relatable.
I think the most damaging part beyond having to experience this daily is showing up as an artist daily decades later and feeling and seeing how impressed and hype people are about things that are actively harming culture...
i'm running out of steam just constantly sharing and expressing into a void... maybe my PC bricking before I can safely secure all this data would be a blessing hahah..
