The Toyota GR Yaris (2020–present), introduced at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, is a rally-bred, three-door hot hatch developed by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing (GR) division to meet World Rally Championship (WRC) homologation rules. Unlike the standard five-door Yaris (XP210), it uses a bespoke platform (GA-B front, GA-C rear) and a turbocharged 1.6L inline-three engine, designed with input from WRC champion Tommi Mäkinen. Built in Toyota’s Motomachi plant, Japan, it’s a street-legal rally car, blending raw performance with daily usability. Its success in WRC (Rally1 debut, 2022) and praise from What Car? make it a modern performance icon, featured in Forza Horizon and enthusiast communities on X.Powertrain and Performance: The 2020 GR Yaris features a 1.6L G16E-GTS turbocharged inline-three engine (1618cc, 261 hp at 6,500 rpm, 266 lb-ft at 3,000-4,600 rpm), paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and GR-Four AWD system with adjustable torque distribution, per UltimateSpecs. It achieves 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h), per Autoevolution. The 2024 facelift ups output to 300 hp and 295 lb-ft, adding an 8-speed automatic option, per Wikipedia. The double-wishbone rear suspension and MacPherson front struts, with vented disc brakes (356 mm front, 297 mm rear), ensure rally-grade handling, per Autotijd.
