Tsuru’s Tale: Lady Hinatsuru

The legend of Lady Hinatsuru, a young and beautiful girl-crane, tells that anyone who sees her white wing in the sky above is destined for luck, love, and a long life. Once, Hinatsuru was an ordinary girl living with her parents in a small Japanese village. One dawn, while walking by the pond, she found a beautiful crane feather. Hinatsuru picked up the feather, intending to keep it as a talisman. However, the bird to which it belonged was magical, and the feather enchanted. As soon as Hinatsuru touched the feather, an unknown force lifted her, and she instantly transformed into a beautiful crane. All day, Hinatsuru soared in the sky above the village, relishing the freedom of flight. And at sunset, she transformed back into a human. Since then, the girl was doomed to change her shape twice a day and circle above the village. And to anyone who saw her, she brought luck, love, and longevity.
