Öz is the essence - the essential quality that constitutes the foundation of being, the unique and individual form of something real. This project explores “Öz” as core, both conceptually and visually. Using GLSL shaders, it utilizes a particle-like painting system that employs a ray marching algorithm to trace neutron-like orbits. As particles swing outward from the center and return, they leave cumulative traces, creating textures that emerge through motion rather than appearing fully formed. Structured as an open-form system, textures expand into lineages. Depths and generations unfold with their own distinct characters. You may choose to continue evolving into new systems or preserve a moment you feel attached to. In this way, choices generate lineages: consistent paths sustain resemblance, while divergences lead to entirely new directions. The project explores the core as a dynamic system because essence is not fixed - it evolves through cycles of expansion, return, and accumulation. By translating this into visual form, we observe how identity is formed - not in a single image, but in the process of becoming.
Depths (What to Expect)
Depth 0 - Core (observe & set the motion) • Select the texture and painting style that will influence all children at the textural level. This anchors your lineage’s signature.
Depth 1 - Detail & Shape • Combine traits from Depth 0 to add detail or drastically change the shape. Offers a wide variety of combinatorial outcomes.
Depths (2 -> 5) - Color & Painting Styles • Add color and painting styles, some of which significantly alter behavior. Exploration here matters: rich combinations arise from traits inherited from Depth 0 and 1.
▬ Reroll vs. Evolve: Until Depth 5, rerolling and evolving feel similar. However, each evolution makes new combinations (color or style) less likely. Keeping earlier traits increases resemblance to ancestors, useful if you want to avoid adding color or new styles. Reroll until you match prior traits, then advance; as you go deeper, your choices stick more firmly.
Depths (6 -> 9) - Scale Up • All traits chosen so far are locked and carried forward. Each depth increases the shape’s size, reaching the canvas boundary at Depth 9. There is a small chance to unlock a full-band color palette in this range.
Depth 10 - New State • The visual language shifts away from its ancestors; compositions turn inward to reveal finer core behaviors. Depth 10 rerolls yield a wide variety of full-canvas compositions, with high variation across Depths 10–20.
Depths (11 -> 19) - Fading out • While evolving yields a high variety of variations, moving forward toward the 20th depth will most likely make the iteration fade out, both in presence or color.
Depths ≥20 - Chaos • At this stage, the system enters continuous motion. Predictability dissolves. Evolving or rerolling can yield unexpected, chaotic results. This is the groundwork for the upcoming evolution of Öz.
