The FLUX NFT is a project created by LVCIDIA, Fair.xyz, and Fvckrender to support emerging digital artists using the Base network. Once a month, and for 12 months, the artwork featured on the NFTs from this Open Edition will change, each time featuring a new rising star in the digital art space. The artwork reveal will be paired with a full interview conducted by the LVCIDIA team, allowing the artist to share their story with a diverse range of collectors. At any point during the 12 month period, holders of these dynamic NFTs will have the ability to lock forever the monthly featured artwork into their NFT.

Artist of the Month: nohygiene

Breaking the Mold

In the landscape of discovery that is digital art, few artists stand out for their relentless pursuit of pushing boundaries. nohygiene is one such figure—a creator whose work defies conventional forms and narratives, challenging both the medium and its audience. His story is one of embracing the limitless possibilities that digital art offers.

'One of the most important things I can say is that I don't feel the physical limitations of form in the digital realm.'

This boundless sense of freedom became the catalyst for his approach to art, allowing him to move beyond traditional artistic constraints and explore new dimensions of creativity.

nohygiene’s feature as the final artist in FLUX’s yearlong showcase marks a compelling conclusion to the 12-month exhibition. Over the past year, FLUX has curated a diverse lineup of artists, each contributing their unique voice and style to the collection. nohygiene’s inclusion brings the showcase full circle, offering a dynamic blend of the transgressive and the introspective, perfectly encapsulating the viral and eclectic nature of crypto culture in 2024.

Transgressive, Melancholic, & Uncompromising

nohygiene’s philosophy is rooted in a desire to disrupt. He veers away from neatly packaged narratives, opting instead to embrace the unpredictable nature of creation.

'My focus on internet culture has led me to move away from a specific narrative,' he explains. 'I value every action and the statements that arise from their outcomes.'

This approach is evident in the melancholic undertones that permeate much of his work. Each piece is imbued with a raw emotional energy that speaks to the transient and often chaotic nature of the digital landscape. For FLUX, he crafted a piece characterized by its striking use of symbolism, deliberately evoking a sense of disquiet and introspection.

Finding Beauty in Inadequacy

nohygiene’s creative process is far from linear. He describes his attachment to the imperfections and unexpected turns that arise during creation, rather than the final product itself.

'I am more attached to the inadequacies that arise during the creation process and their consequences than to the finished piece.'

Creative blocks, often seen as hurdles, are instead moments of meaning and significance for him. He views these periods as inevitable facets of life—akin to suffering or grappling with feelings of inadequacy in the face of larger forces. Rather than seeking escape, he embraces these challenges, finding inspiration in the unpredictability of it all.

'Meaninglessness and uncertainty are more impactful.'

Making it clear that for nohygiene, art is as much about the journey as it is about the destination.

FLUX

When asked about his involvement in FLUX, nohygiene’s response highlighted the dynamic nature of his art. The project’s emphasis on evolving art resonates deeply with his own philosophy of embracing change and unpredictability.

'Evolving art is a reflection of life itself—constantly shifting, never static.'

The idea of collectors having the ability to 'lock in' one of his artworks permanently adds an intriguing layer to this concept. It invites viewers to interact with the artwork in a manner that is both participatory and definitive, giving them a sense of agency over the artwork’s final form.

For his featured artwork in FLUX, nohygiene created a narrative around a character named Rachel O’Brien—a hardworking woman from a small farm town, racing an old pickup truck and cheering for Galatasaray. This blend of deeply personal details with a universal narrative creates a rich tapestry of identity and experience, further exemplifying his interest in breaking away from traditional storytelling.

Visions to Life

nohygiene’s position as the closing act in the FLUX showcase is symbolic. Over the past 12 months, FLUX has celebrated artists from all across digital art, each bringing a unique perspective to the collection. nohygiene’s transgressive approach, with its focus on challenging norms and embracing uncertainty, serves as a powerful finale to this exploration of digital art’s potential.

The 12-month journey has been a testament to FLUX’s commitment to fostering diverse voices and artistic experimentation. Each artist in the collection has contributed to a larger dialogue about what digital art can be and how it can engage with audiences in new and meaningful ways. nohygiene’s work encapsulates this ethos, pushing the boundaries of form and content while inviting viewers to reconsider their relationship with art on a digital medium.

A Relentless Pursuit

As nohygiene ventures into the world of virtual reality, his focus remains on expanding the scope of his artistic vision. He envisions creating immersive environments where the viewer is no longer a passive observer but an active participant in the unfolding narrative.

'I’m really excited to soon test my compositions in a virtual environment.'

Hinting at a future where his work will continue to blur the lines between artist, artwork, and audience.

A Year of Artistic Evolution

nohygiene’s feature in FLUX serves as a fitting end to a transformative year of digital art and sets the stage for future explorations. As the final artist in this landmark series, he leaves us with an invitation to embrace the uncertainties and imperfections that define both art and life.

Through nohygiene’s work, the FLUX collection culminates in a celebration of the unrefined, the unexpected, and the ever-evolving nature of digital expression. It’s a conclusion that, like the artist himself, defies expectations and leaves us anticipating what comes next.
