I think it is vanity to want to put into a story anything but the story itself. Your best ideas feel too weird to ship. Too strange. Too different from what's working for others. You sand them down until they're acceptable, marketable, safe. Stop. The weird idea that scares you might be the only honest thing you'll make this year. Let it through. Unedited. Unexplained. Strange ideas need strange homes.
