Zhong Kui

Zhong Kui is the god of Chinese mythology who exterminates demons and evil spirits. According to legend he lived in the Zhongnan Mountains in the early Tang Dynasty. Zhong Kui has an not good looking appearance. After his death, he was crowned an exterminator of demons and evil spirits by Emperor Dezong. This was because apparently what made the evil spirit not dare to approach and the emperor's praise for his purity of heart did not repay Lu Qi. Many images of Zhong Kui are installed on the doorsteps of ethnic Chinese houses to ward off evil spirits.
