Contact, rather than fostering cultural interchange, resulted in the virtual annihilation of Indian life and culture. While violence erupted on both sides, the most heinous crimes were committed by whites, who possessed superior weapons and, in many cases, superior numbers. Today most native Americans live in isolated communities, with a grave cultural identity crisis. In my opinion native American culture had one of the most advanced spiritual practices.
