The chronicles of the Han dynasty in China say that the pink dolphins of the Yangtze River numbered in the thousands. It was the second century after Christ and they were good times in the Asian country that was expanding territorially, promoting new crops, products and merchants. Documents from the time put the number of this fascinating dolphin mammal at least five thousand along the great river.
Since then, the species has been declining until reaching the most accurate counts of our days. China reacted too late to its decline and, despite having declared it endangered in 1979, it was not until 1983 that it declared its fishing illegal.
