"Slowly make haste, and without losing courage. Twenty times redo your work. Polish and re-polish endlessly. And sometimes add, but often take away."
There are very few things more appealing than meeting someone or experiencing something for the very fist time. My conjecture is that this initial exposure of our six senses to a new form, triggers some part of our brains that are rarely active as a whole in other situations.
Every single time Festinalente shares a work in progress or releases a new piece, you get that extremely provocative sense of discovering something new to your experience, a very rare feature in most artists’ practice. In a world where the pleasure of staring at visual arts is extremely cheap and almost infinite, it’s important to highlight Festinalente’s ability to be relevant, telling a story that connects the dots whilst adding more elements to the narrative.
The astute usage of colours in parallel with an outstanding distribution of the compositions, sometimes even exploring the limits of the canvas, result in unprecedented alignment of forms, usually accompanied with recognisable scribbling, giving Festinalente’s pieces an admirable desire to be looked at.
Besides the pure aesthetics of his practice, one of the most impressive extractions that the mind experiences when walking through Festinalente’s work can be summarised by describing a world where people are forever young, there is happiness, there is sadness, there is nostalgia, but only the good parts of it, leaving no space or time for the inexplicable and the broken modern era.
Everyone describes Festinalente as an easy going person, always with a smile ready, and that definitely defines his practice and work. For the current gallery takeover, we are able to discover for the first time, a very personal notebook with sketches that help us to understand the artist’s ethos, motifs and evolution.
This is the brochure was created for the XPLOIT x FESTINALENTE gallery takeover (May 2022).
