It was the fifth day after the earth split open in Iceland, when I packed up my gear and hiked through the night, following the red glow in the sky. The closer I got, the stranger smells I encountered. Finally, I climbed up the last hill and saw a sight that was only describable with Mordor. I had been here before during daytime hours, although at night the atmosphere was much darker and even more astounding. Excited I flew up my drone and navigated through the night around the volcano. After 20 minutes my batteries started to cry out and I had to turn back. Unfortunately, when I landed my drone, I noticed that the bottom had slightly melted, but it didn’t matter, I had the footage. Hours later I started going through my images at home and there he was, staring back at me: Raging Pepe!
Experts say this eruption may mark the start of decades of volcanic activity, the last eruption in the Reykjanes Peninsula dates back to almost 800 years.
