Contemplating my employer's tentative request to return to the office by September, I realized how awkward this process seems by now.
I believe that the metaphor of the deep sea diver best illustrates office life - a long-time immersion under pressure for nine hours every day.
In the last year, work has evolved to this hyper-real state in front of our screens in our homes with each of us digitally connected to our almost-virtual peers.
We can only embrace this advent of (hyper)-reality and should not try to deny it or push again for the forced simulacra inside the broken office buildings.
From the postmodern perspective, I think this would be the right quote: “So, there is no longer striking, nor work, but both simultaneously, that is to say something else: a magic of work, a trompe l'oeil, a scenodrama (so as not to say a melodrama) of production, a collective dramaturgy on the empty stage of the social.” Jean Baudrillard in "Simulacra and Simulation".
