Their euphoric attitude in combat almost out of control, it is said that they seemed insensitive to pain, that they bit their shields in the frenzy of their altered state and that they went into danger without a care in the world. This unusual aggressiveness was due to the ingestion of the fungus Amanita muscaria. Their combat attitude increased to the maximum, to such a degree, that they became the terror of the populations they plundered.
