Vibe - 2019

Ignorance is bliss. A willingness to crash through walls, spill over tables, recklessly throw color on to a canvas, express with no boundaries. Before the yoke of what the world demands is thrown over our shoulders and suddenly we find ourselves in a maze of rules.

Early on in this series of 100 paintings, my first painting project, I had no expectations. I also had a clean floor...that ended shortly after this project started. Luckily my previous roommate gave me a carpet when we moved out. But I digress...and that's the fun part of these descriptions, for those who read them... :)

I wanted color, and a lot of it. Having played with paint on paper, this canvas thing was a whole new world to me. Pretty sure there's a painting hidden underneath this one. Sometimes I can't wait for an order to come in, or can't afford more, so I make do with what I got, always iterating and evolving.

Posting this piece here as I bridge old to new is an experience for me, as with all my previous work. A walk down memory lane, to meet a person and vibe of a completely different time. I rarely go through my old work, no time right now. So much of the digestion that should take part inside my own head after I've poured out a thought...but, one day.

I want to drop a quote from the book I wrote about the series, because it's fun to see how I think about this work now and what I thought about it then...strange similarities, hehe.

Rules, what are those again? I couldn’t help myself when I brought these colors out. Like sticking my finger in an outlet.

Life, vitality, breaking away the pieces that had been dammed up deep inside my head. My confience was beginning to grow. How the heck did I get green and orange to look so good together?

One of my earliest works on canvas...of which now there are hundreds, for better or worse.

I hope you find your vibe in this piece, looking at it brings back this raw energy I had at the beginning, and I want to spread that. Hopefully it hits the mark.
