In this image, at its original resolution of 4096x4096, the colour of each pixel indicates how many pixels are strictly closer to the centre of the image than that pixel.
This trivial formula is used:
Number of Pixels = 4 * ((Red * 256 + Green) * 256 + Blue)
Note that pixels always come equidistant from the centre in multiples of 4. For example 4 pixels are equally closest to the centre and are given a value of 0 => RGB (0,0,0), the next 8 are also equally close and are given a value of 4 => RGB (0,0,1), etc.
Pixels outside the image are still counted if they are closer to the centre than pixels in the image, so that this image is not affected by boundary conditions.
This image is fully symmetrical, that is: symmetrical with respect to its centre, horizontal axis, vertical axis, upward diagonal, downward diagonal and 90 degrees rotations, for each of its RGB components and as a whole.
Because of the order of components in the trivial formula - Red being the most significant and Blue being the least significant - the image shows high frequency blue ripples with interference patterns, mid frequency green ripples without interference patterns, and a slowly increasing Red component which becomes visually noticeable towards the corners.
