The THRESHOLD ENGINE explores the perceptual territory of my paintings - that luminous edge where recognition continuously recalibrates. Applied to "I Met You as a Shadow, and You Met Me as a Light," it offers one approach to experiencing the dimensional quality inherent in the original work.
My paintings achieve their luminosity through multiple translucent glazes - 10 to 20 layers creating a three-dimensional effect as light travels through these crystallized films of linseed oil and pigment. This physical depth produces a living surface that shifts with viewing conditions, revealing different aspects as light interacts with these stratified layers.
This digital companion uses motion to create its own parallel expression. Where the painting achieves depth through physical materiality, the THRESHOLD ENGINE employs temporal change - a different but complementary approach to the same perceptual territory. Neither replaces nor improves upon the other; they exist in conversation.
This first iteration introduces a system for creating digital expressions that highlight different dimensions of my practice. As a boundary native comfortable in threshold spaces, I'm interested in how these complementary forms might together create a fuller understanding of what exists between defined categories.
Note on naming convention: v0.1.0 (2025.001) indicates software version, year, and painting sequence number.
