A satirical spoken-word rap exploring networks, incentives, visibility, and the stories we tell ourselves about how culture emerges. Performed as an escalating monologue where every coincidence is, of course, just a coincidence.

Lyrics there is no cabal there is no network there is no coordinated machine it is all in your head and you are simply experiencing the ancient human tendency to connect unrelated dots like when you notice three white vans on the same street and suddenly believe the electricity company is tracking your dreams because obviously people just like the same things at the same time and obviously the hot new artist appearing from the exact same ecosystem as the last hot new artist means nothing and obviously the fact that every release from that lab ends up featured by our daily show is the natural rhythm of culture like birds migrating south or every supermarket putting the milk in the back so you have to walk past the cereal and discounted batteries first and no this is not distribution this is not coordinated attention this is not a closed feedback loop where platforms create visibility visibility creates value value validates the platform and everyone involved points at the rising number as proof that they were right from the beginning it is simply a beautiful coincidence repeated every week with the precision of a swiss train schedule and the organic spontaneity of a quarterly marketing calendar and the independent media supports all the art they genuinely love and they genuinely love all the art that signs a deal allowing them to participate in the upside over time which is completely normal because when your friend tells you they love your cooking but only after purchasing equity in your kitchen that is not a conflict of interest that is friendship with aligned incentives and when the same names appear in the same rooms on the same spaces in the same articles buying from each other promoting each other interviewing each other and later pointing to the resulting market activity as independent proof of importance this is not a circle it is a constellation and constellations are not real either they are just stars we decided to connect because the human brain is sick and desperate for meaning so stop connecting them stop drawing lines between the lab the media outlet the collectors the deals the releases and the secondary market because once you draw enough lines it starts looking like a diagram and diagrams are dangerous because diagrams make systems visible and there is no system there are only friends helping friends who happen to own a percentage of what their friends are selling to other friends while explaining to everyone outside the friend group that the market has spoken and the culture has chosen and maybe the market sounds suspiciously like twelve people in a group chat but that is what decentralization means now it means no single person controls everything because several people control different pieces and have dinner together on thursday and perhaps you think this resembles the local restaurant where the owner recommends the wine made by his brother and the bread baked by his wife and the paintings on the wall are by his cousin and every review comes from someone who received a free meal but that restaurant has atmosphere and this ecosystem has community and community is what we call coordinated financial interest when everyone has a profile picture and says gm and no one is forcing anyone to sign anything they are only explaining that support works better when incentives are aligned and that exposure is valuable and that long term partnerships help build sustainable careers and that sustainable careers are easier to sustain when a small percentage flows back toward the people sustainably explaining why you deserve attention and this is not gatekeeping because the gate is technically open you just need to know the person standing beside it and agree that they should continue earning money every time you walk through and maybe the artist really is brilliant maybe the work really is good maybe none of that is false because the smartest machine does not manufacture talent it simply decides which talent receives oxygen and then acts surprised when everything else suffocates and points at the survivors as evidence that oxygen naturally gathers around quality so there is no cabal there is only taste and taste is formed by visibility and visibility is distributed by relationships and relationships are strengthened by ownership and ownership is justified by support and support is proven by visibility and now we are back where we started but that is not a loop that is the wheel of culture turning naturally by itself while six people keep their hands on it and tell you the direction came from the wind
