Little about the piece: I started working on the album cover after I created a couple songs that would eventually turn into the first tracks of The Wake. It was a lot of fun putting together the songs then listening to the latest mix while working on the drawing. I'd take mental notes of what I wanted to change so when I would hit a wall with the drawing I'd switch to music. Going in I knew that I wanted to have a casket, some trees, water, use only a couple of colors, and for the first time draw something larger than a piece of paper! The album I made before The Wake is called Death and I wanted this to be a sendoff of sorts so that train of thought led me to create a type of portal where the casket was heading. The vines kind of just happened and the water I wanted to have this unnatural swirliness to them. The part that took the longest was all the lines in the trees but it was sort of peaceful drawing all of them!
On average I tend to release an album every 2 years and I thought this was a perfect halfway point before I start working on my next music project to release somewhat of an ABSOLUTE EDITION of The Wake. I can't think of a better way to enjoy the album.
