The Tourist

"On the Run" is a series of stylized vehicles created in Cinema 4D, BodyPaint, Corel Painter, Illustrator, Octane and Photoshop. Inspired by Saturday morning cartoons like Wacky Races, Loony Tunes and Road Runner. I wanted to apply outrageous proportions to my vehicle design to give them a playful charm.

Each vehicle represents a different type of road user and "The Tourist" is that slow, lumbering car and caravan you meet on narrow roads with no way of getting around them for miles! They slow down and stop to admire the view. They don't watch the road with their huge map covering the windscreen and along the way, they'll drop a suitcase or two just to be extra annoying! If you want to avoid "The Tourist", keep clear of any tourist trap they might consider visiting. You've been warned!

Modeled in Cinema 4D to have a strong silhouette, unwrapped in BodyPaint and then hand painted in Corel Painter to give a loose and painterly feel. Before the days of Substance Painter, each vehicle has worn edges which were all scratched in by hand. The process of going back and forth between Corel Painter, Photoshop and C4D to test render the position of each paint stroke was an arduous one but it's what gave each model a unique, handmade look. The entire project of eight vehicles took 18 months to complete.
