I love working in black and white. I often call my black and white drawings and illustrations my zen meditation, as is is a calming break from working with colour. I love the star contrast of dark and light and creating a moment in time with only black on the page inspires me.
This piece was a play on the time worn view of woman in the three stages of life: The triple Goddess of maiden, mother, crone, as well as the trope of the three witches in Shakespeare. I had a notion of the three ladies caught in the decorative but still wanting to engage with the viewer until the final stage is more about looking back at from which they came.
