Abel Guerroa, 2026 Acrylic on canvas, 27 x 46 in. Divisionism
Six figures sit on the grass around a spread of fruit. Each figure is rendered in a single color rather than a naturalistic skin tone: green, violet, ochre, blue, red, yellow. Every figure is built with the same technique, block by block, with no hierarchy in the brushwork between them.
The painting works in the lineage of Divisionism and Pointillism, built from small discrete strokes of color rather than blended ones. The uniform color logic across all six figures removes the usual visual markers of race, replacing them with an open field of color that any viewer can enter.
The fruit rests low to the ground, within reach of all six figures. No one sits higher, closer to the food, or more prominent in the composition than another. The painting offers no explicit narrative and no stated message. It presents a gathering, evenly lit and evenly held, and leaves its meaning to the viewer.
