Artist: Carl Ansloos – Mr Painter
Title: ‘The Masquerade’
Collection: The Masquerade Collection.
This allegorical work depicts a flamboyant scene charged with creativity, reminiscent of the traditional masquerade ball.
This is the first painting in the Masquerade Collection. A body of work that celebrates self-expression and individuality. This hand painted series aims to explore the themes of anonymity and identity. The artist uses hyperbolic characterization to illustrate the adoption of the ‘alter ego’ or avatar. Furthermore, the narrative investigates the connection between anonymity and personal empowerment within the community. Whilst exploring these themes, the artist seeks to promote innovation, diversity, and creativity within this space.
Carl Ansloos uses a visual vocabulary with an idiosyncratic poetic vein, driving the narrative whilst blending, twisting, and blurring the traditional guidelines. His work aims to give the visual image context and relevance, challenging institutionalised ideals and hierarchy. He chooses not to recognise the authority of any single style or definition of what art should be, aiming to breakdown the division between high culture and everyday life.
