Gustav Klimt's The Kiss is very passionate, filled with lust. But it also looks like a one way traffic, from the man's perspective. Very often I look at the girl in the painting and wonder if she even consented to be touched or not. But there he was, grabbing her, forcing her to her knees as he planted his face into hers. It looks like that it felt really wonderful for him- all the gold and and patterns really represents this feeling well, and probably also his projection of her feeling of being kissed, too. But what about her, how did she really feel about being taken like that, in such a compromising position?
This is my interpretation of that much loved painting.
The after marriage version. With kids and a pet. Unwashed dishes. LEGO on the floor. Chaos. A messy blur of chaos, that's part of family life.
