Two planets, millions of miles apart, together for a moment.
Every 20 years, the planets Jupiter and Saturn near each other in our sky to form a conjunction. Not all conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn are equal, such is the case of what happened on Dec 21, 2020. On this day, the planets became the closest they had been since the year 1623. Being the best conjunction in 400 years, this one was named 'The Great Conjunction'. Jupiter and Saturn would pass close enough to be photographed together in great detail in one shot. This is an incredibly rare occurrence in the night sky.
I set out to photography this even with my own telescope, and managed to get lucky with great weather and good seeing conditions. This image was captured from the Angeles Crest Forest using a Celestron C9.25 telescope. Due to the hype surrounding this event, this became one of my most viral images. This is the only NFT of this event (that I could find).
