I've always found it inspiring to explore new regions and even new trails. Even when it's a location I am familiar with, I try to find new areas that I haven't seen before. After all, if I limit my perspectives I don't allow myself to see the world in a new way. One day while I had been hiking for several miles, I saw a very small trail off of the usual route I take. It was about the width of a small animal so it could have been used by the area's deer. The path led me down switchbacks into a winding valley beside a beautiful waterfall. I was astonished to see how lush and green the foliage was. How had I never experienced this place before?
The most noticeable object was this fascinating tree that had long since fallen. The roots had formed around a massive boulder on the valley floor and stretched to the soil below. Nature always finds a way to survive and thrive. I named this photo "The Ent" after the fabled tree people in Lord of the Rings. How much history had this old Ent seen?
