On my last day in Bali I visited a working rice field. I saw this gentleman off to the side of the trail and felt pulled towards him. I needed to know him.. A translator was able to help us communicate and what I learned about him changed everything.
This man is in his 80's, has never left his village, has never owned a pair of shoes and has only the clothes on his back. He never asked us for money or anything at all, but after learning his story, we gave him everything we had. Tears started falling down his face as he hugged each of us. The biggest takeaway from that trip has been to be more conscious of my surroundings, the people that I come into contact with and the connection that I have with them. This man was able to give more than I ever could. He gave me perspective and perspective is EVERYTHING.
