"Automata" is a new piece of generative art based on simple rules that produce complex behaviour. The work is an example of creative coding, a new type of code-based art inspired and enriched by artificial intelligence.
The sequence of transformations produces an AI-generated word that does not exist in the English language.
The work is a visual system that creates ever-changing, organic abstractions. The system is based on simple rules that produce complex behaviour. The result is designed to be soothing, helping to tackle anxiety.
The work is inspired by nature, specifically how simple rules can produce complex behaviour. The result is also influenced by the work of artists like John Cage and Brian Eno, who have used similar systems to create art.
The work is created using a processing sketch. The sketch is based on a two-dimensional cellular automaton. The automaton comprises a grid of cells, each of which can be in one of two states, black or white. The conditions of its neighbours determine the state of a cell.
The sketch uses a simple set of rules to determine the state of each cell. The rules are as follows:
If a cell is black, it will turn white if more than two black cells are in its neighbourhood.
If a cell is white, it will turn black if more than three black cells are in its neighbourhood.
The sketch starts with a random distribution of black and white cells. The rules are then applied to each generation of cells, resulting in an ever-changing pattern.
The work is designed to be calming, helping to tackle anxiety. The slow, organic changes in the pattern are meant to be visually calming, helping to reduce stress. The work can be viewed as a static image or as an animation.
The work is an example of creative coding, a new type of code-based art. Creative coding is a type of art that is created using code. The art is created by writing code that produces images, animations, or other output forms. Creative coding is a new type of art that is just beginning to be explored.
