These creatures have a body covered in fine hair, live in tropical, desert and forest areas, and are nocturnal predators that feed mainly on insects, frogs and sometimes small rodents. Despite their scary appearance, the venom of most tarantula species is not dangerous to humans and their bite is similar to that of a bee. Many of them are even kept as pets. The leg span of some species can reach 30 cm and the females can live up to 20-30 years!
